A Year in the Rear-view Mirror :)

Well, we are basically days away from calling it a year and finishing this class.  In looking back on the semester, how was it as a whole?  What did you gain the most from-why?  What did you feel you did not gain much at all from-why? Is there anything you would have done differently in retrospect?

  1. Overall, I really liked this class. It's given me a lot of new perspectives on various aspects of ministry. I always enjoy practical courses the most. Even the aspects of the class that I was originally dreading, I ended up enjoying a lot. I think I gained the most from the Camp Project because I'm extremely detail-oriented and I really enjoy planning things out like that, especially when I know that they're going to come in handy again someday. I didn't feel like I gained as much from the pizza party because I typically don't go to things like that on campus.

  2. I really enjoyed this class. I love all the books. I am terrible with coming up with games, so that was for sure a huge help from this class. Another thing that I really gained from the class was how to properly format and access paperwork for events. Also how to plan out a camp. I think the hardest thing was the camp planning because it was such a large scale idea. The thing I would change would be to do more with Godly play. That and working with different learning styles is something I really struggle with and would love to learn more about. Thanks for a great semester!

  3. I thoroughly loved this class. I struggled a little bit just because I let myself get completely overwhelmed by having to plan different events. As soon as one was finished I started stressing about the next. That is one thing that I need to work on, is just learning how to deal with my stress and hand it over to God instead of holding onto it myself. I honestly just learned a lot about how to run a youth group. It helped me a lot in learned how to structure my lesson plans or what not to do in my youth group. I don't think that there is anything that I would have done differently over the course of the semster, maybe be a little more laid back and talk more in class. Overall, I loved this class and learned a lot!!

  4. I really enjoyed this class. I liked the practicality of it. I will be able to use what I learned in this class in my future ministry. I would keep this class the same. I don't think that it needs to change. It is a hands on course that gives you experience which is what we need as ministry majors. It was an awesome semester thank you.

  5. Overall I have really enjoyed this class! I appreciated how practical and hands-on everything was. I'd say I gained planning and organizing skills because of how much we actually dove into planning and organizing, from budgets to games! I also gained knowledge (and hopefully skills soon enough!) about "storying" and "Godly play" that will definitely enhance the teaching aspect of my ministry. If I had to choose something that I gained the least from it would be planning games for the pizza party just because I feel like a lot of the games we were focusing on were geared towards younger ages even though they were fun. I did feel like we benefited from working on advertising and promotion though through the pizza party planning. I don't believe I would do anything differently, even when I may have messed up because through that I learned some valuable lessons! Not to copy Jared, but thank you for such a memorable semester! :)

  6. As a whole, this semester was awesome! I gained a ton from this class! I really enjoyed getting to do things that required working with children. So far, all of my ministry classes have been with all youth ministry majors (I'm not saying that it's a bad thing), so I haven't been able to do a lot of projects that pertain to children's ministry. I loved how hands on this class was. I am a very kinesthetic learner, so this class was perfect for me. I am not really sure what I gained the least from. I feel as if I gained a lot of knowledge from everything that we did in class.

  7. I loved this class, it helped me a lot with learning how to plan the major events that I will hold in my ministry. I learned that although the perception of a youth group is always doing fun camps, and retreats. You need to learn how to take a step back and reflect and have time to get away and think about everything for a while. I also learned a lot about helping plan games to play in a youth group, and to always make sure to have back ups. There wasn't anything that I would say I didn't gain anything from. I learned something from every activity that we did this semester. I would not change a thing about this class, it was very involved in what you were learning and that is something that I really enjoyed.
