Camps and Retreats

Why do you think it is important for youth ministries to attend camps and retreats? How have camps and retreats helped to shape who you are?

  1. I think that it is very important for youth groups to go on retreats. They can be a time for great group bonding and growing spiritually together. Having a retreat once a semester gives groups a time to pull away from school and other life issues and really focus on God. This is needed to develop a strong relationship with God. Camps can do this as well, but they are also great for making connections with other youth groups. I still talk with the friends that I made a teen camp and now we go to school together. There is just something about the aspect of living and worshiping with a large group of teens that impacts your life. It is a time of fun, learning, and discovering God in a new way.

  2. In my opinion camps a retreats are vital to a youth's growth in their faith. It definitely takes some time away from the outside world to be able to connect with God sometimes and to be able to listen to what He is trying to tell you. They are also important in forming life long relationships that are made with other people. Being away from distraction you can really get to know people for how they truly are instead of what the world brings out of them. I personally have not had ample experience with camps, but retreats have definitely been a big part of my spiritual growth and have also helped to form bonds with people that I never imagined I would be close with otherwise.

  3. I think that they are important for a few reasons. First it develops groupness and helps your youth group bond and get closer together because they together a lot. Also they are a good event to invite friends to because they are fun. Also they help your group spiritually. With all three of these outcomes I think it is important to participate. Because of camps and retreats my faith has grown stronger. I also have made some good friends through these trips.

  4. I think that camps and retreats help to create a community that you really can't find anywhere else. They allow students to develop relationships they wouldn't normally develop on their own. They help establish memories and create spiritual, loving environments for students by giving them a chance to get away from the normal busy lives they lead. Camps and retreats have always brought me closer to God. They've reminded me just who God is and they remind me that it is necessary to stop every now and then and just take a moment to listen to God in a way I normally wouldn't. They've also helped me to develop a lot of relationships I never would have had if I hadn't been on the trip.

  5. I think camps and retreats are extremely important for youth ministries. I helps create community and it helps the students to get some personal time with God amidst their busy lives. I think it is equally important for the camps and retreats to be debriefed by the youth pastor. Camps and retreats have shaped me in a huge way. I have attended church camp every summer since forever, and a lot of spiritual growth and formation has occurred in that place. Also, some of my most cherished relationships have started at camps.

  6. Camps and retreats are crucial to youth programs because it pulls students from their comfort zone and provides an environment where they can truly escape from the daily sounds and business of life to rest, retreat, and experience God. Camps and retreats form community between people who may otherwise never meet or come to know each other. Taking time to focus on God and simply rest and recreate refocuses our attention and puts God in the center of life if only for a few days. God moves in awesome ways at camp when a community comes together and truly seeks His presence. For teens specifically in our time, camps and retreats are the perfect escape from technology and the many outlets that demand immediate attention.

  7. Camps and retreats are critical for youth programs to help build an element of community and groupness among all of the teens. They force people out of their comfort zone and cause them to rely on others and God to get through everything. It helps them to be more open with one another and makes them want to share with one another. It also helps them to rest from their busy lives and spend time with God in a setting that doesn't have them constantly connected to the world.

  9. I think that retreats are very important to go on. They allow you to get to know other people and be able to bond and make life long relationships. It's a way to get out of your comfort zone. It's also a way to be crazy around other people your age and still be able to learn about God. This is also a great way to be re energized in your faith with God. You can start to become closer with God and be able to gow in him, and what awesome way to experience that with your friends. Retreats have shaped who I am as a person. I have made a lot of new relationships. I have become closer with God and have been more open with people, and I am more open into sharing my story and sharing what God has been doing in my life. I always looked forward to go on retreats and camp because I can just away from the busy life and focus on God and friends that support me in all that I do.
