Working Together

I believe our first event went really well and the turnout we had was great! I believe all our personalities helped make the whole night in general a success. There were some extraordinary people who went out of their ways to help other groups and just make the night go smoothly. There was energy and excitement. I believe we can do really well at our next event, MSO, if we all channel our energy together and help each other plan and keep things running efficiently throughout the night. How do you think our class' groups interacted with each other? Do you think  there could be more communication, or helping each other at the events? Also what do you believe our strengths were as a whole class? What do you feel we need to work on as a whole class to help make our next event even better?

  1. I noticed that before the event, while planning, there was a lack of communication between the groups which caused some last minute decisions to be made. Not a big deal because we still had a great event, but for future events we should communicate more. While we were actually at the event though it went smoothly and we all helped each other where we saw that help was needed and I see this as a strength because when we saw that something needed done we did not see it as that groups responsibility, but just jumped in and did what needed done. So I think that the main thing we need to work on for MSO is communicating with one another so that we all know what the others are planning and we don't have overlapping plans.

  2. I totally agree with the communication. As a group leader, I was frustrated at times with communication between groups. Before MSO, we should all meet together or at least email one another so all groups understand what is going on. I think at the event, one of our strenghts was everyone's personalities. Some people were natural leaders, others were servants, others were able to create a great atmosphere, etc. I saw everyone keeping the energy high and trying to make the games run well. For MSO, we need to do the same things. Encouraging and serving one another will help us make through an all-nighter with 400+ middle schoolers.

  3. I feel like we did very well with helping each other out and that the right people were in the right places. We were also able to adapt very quickly to different situations that came up during the event.I feel as though we need to communicate better between groups. Also that we should meet as a class and go through the schedule and which group is doing what. This way for MSO everything is clear and things will go even more smoothly.

  4. As the others have said, I feel like there could've been more communication between groups. As a class, I felt like we did a good job of making everyone feel comfortable and welcome and want to stay.We kept energy up and I feel like that will be a key during MSO.

  5. I agree, i think the entire night went smoothly! I think the groups worked very well together. The night could have gone even better if some groups would have planned better as an individual group. However, as a whole, i think our classes biggest accomplishment was making people feel welcome and getting them involved in the activities. Every single person that walked in was immediately engaged and pulled into the festivities.

  6. I was surprised to see not only the amount of people that showed up, but also how much everyone was involved with the games. No one really sat out at all and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. On the other hand, I think the some of the games could have been explained better. For example, I could have explained my game a bit more because the students were still asking me questions as the game progressed. Overall though, I thought the night went very smoothly and that everyone had a good time.

  7. I thought that the group interacted very well. I think that there can always be more communication. I thought that the communication during this event was very well especially for this being our first event. I thought that we really worked well together but I thought that we could have be a little bit more involved in some of the games

  8. communication is key in any event and we did ok with it but there will need to be improvments made between now and then on communicating between the different groups. other than that i agree that there was alot of energy and that is awesome because it can be difficult to have a successful mixer for people in college and we pulled it off and atleast looked like we knew what we were doing

  9. Communication is defiantly a huge part of keeping everyone involved on the same track. Knowing what to communicate to the groups is important as well, with Jr. highers, the instructions need to be simple and effective all in one. We need to have alot of energy with the kids as well. If we're tired, they'll pick up on it and not want to participate either. It will be interesting to see what happens.

  10. I agree with a lot of the earlier post's and think that communication is one of the keys to making the next event run smoothly, I feel like are group dis a good job talking with each other but possibly not staying connected with the rest of the groups. At the event though I feel like there were a lot of people just willing to help out with whatever was needed whether it was there job or not which is important.

  11. I would agree that our first event was a success. I would also agree with the majority of the previous posts about planning and organization prior to the event; there just was not enough of it. Regardless of the minor inconveniences caused by this, our class groups performed well together and everyone did whatever they had to to keep the event running smoothly even if it was not officially their "job." For MSO I think our class needs to focus on maintaining high energy levels despite personality tendencies, fatigue, or frustration. This will assure that the middle schoolers do not lose steam halfway through the night.

  13. I think that the Mid Term Party went well, however I believe the groups could do a better job communicating before the night of the event; I understand we were on break, but even before that. I feel like when we were all there at the event we communicated well and people helped where help was needed, I also feel like our group does a good job at making people feel welcome.

  14. As mentioned many times, I think communication is one area we can all work on. As a group leader, it was really hard to communicate with others because some people didn't check emails and others just didn't respond. I agree though that on the spot, we work quite well together. We have a lot of energy within our class and within the different groups which helps when it comes to engaging others who are not in our class. Many in the class seem to be very driven as well. Like Jenn was saying last week, we have quite a few "Lions" in our class which is a wonderful help when planning event. But at the same time, there are many detail oriented and "fun" people in the class as well. This combination I think is what really helped our last event to be a success. I know that if we communicate more in advance for MSO it will be an even bigger success! :)

  15. I was not there, but I heard that it went great! From what I saw, I think that communication could be improved between groups. I think that we have done a lot better job for MSO with communication!

  16. I think this event went really well and there is always room for improvement of course but over all I think we did a good job. For MSO I think we need to keep the energy up and stay pumped up for all the events we have going on pulse helping one another out through out the night as well because it will be crazy and people will need help. I think we did really well over all with the flow of the events and the way people just steped up and did things it was great and hopefully we can cary that over to MSO.
