On Behalf of Jeremy...

So Jeremy's computer wouldn't let him add a post so this is is question!

"I hope everyone has had time to get rested up from MSO. I know for many of us this has been the biggest event any of us have planned. So I wanted to get your thoughts about how the event went. I know we did some of this Monday, but I think it would be good to reflect on what we learned some more. So here are some questions that you might want to consider in your comments. What was your favorite part of MSO.  How did you feel the night went as a whole? What was one thing that you think we did well? What was one thing that could have gone better? What did you learn from the event and how will you use what you learned in the future? What was the most rewarding part of your evening? "

  1. I definitely enjoyed MSO...although I'm still a bit exhausted from the event.. haha
Anyway.. I thought it went really well. All the kids seemed to have a blast and I think most of us had a great time as well. I thought all of our ideas for the different stations were really good. The kids seemed to enjoy them. There were some communication issues between the admissions leaders and us, but we dealt with it the best we could! I thought all of the volunteers were awesome and fun to work with and it was so much fun seeing all of you guys in your elements. :) Great event!

  2. I thought that overall it was a great event and everything went over more or less smoothly. I think we named all the things that I had thought went well and could have been improved upon, but I think that as a whole it was great and the things that could be improved upon have been mentioned and will be thought through. I loved the first block just because everyone was so full of energy. Everyone working it seemed to keep it going as best as they could, but you could tell that the kids were getting tired towards the end. Planning and working this helped in my understanding of how to run an event like this and all the things that need to be thought through. I'll definitely remember this when I start to plan events of my own as a youth pastor (or this one so I don't have to plan it :) haha )

  3. I definitely had a great time at MSO and like Kauri I am still pretty exhausted from the event. I felt that it went very well and like both Bailey and Kauri said most of the issues we have talked about and will be easily addressed. I loved the first block because each one of us got to lead different games in our room. After the first section of block 1 our group had to adapt and change up how long our games would run which was a great learning experience! I also agree with Bailey that during the second block everyone started to get tired. It was during that time that I noticed many students just sitting around and watching others have fun. I also know that for our room we had set up different stations for students to go for the second block and that honestly caused the night to drag on more for the volunteers. We thought it would make it go by faster but, instead we floated from station to station to see if any students needed help or wanted us to play with them. It became less structured and so easier to want to fall asleep. It was also during this time that I noticed what John and Dylan call "clumpy oatmeal." I learned that I honestly do not want to run all-nighters for my future ministry and if I do one it would be through something like MSO. I have no problem with planning it but, I would not want to run it or try to get staff to if we are being honest. I think you can be just as effective by having an event that runs until 1am. The most rewarding aspect of the evening was just seeing everything come together and work out. We got to see the giant tetherballs function properly, the gaga pit go well, and all of us got a chance to lead games effectively. Overall, it was a fun night but I am still recovering from it.

  4. I think overall, the event went really well. I agree with Bailey that block 1 was better in terms of energy. I know I was feeling exhausted by the time we ate. But I think we all did a great job keeping the energy up in the second rotation. I think we pretty much covered all the good and bad during class, but I think one thing we could've done better is communication. There was some confusion about where the kids were going next and when they were going, but I think that was only a minor thing. I definitely learned a lot through planning this event and I'll definitely take all that into my ministry. I definitely won't be planning my own all-nighters, but I'll definitely bring my middle schoolers to this one lol.

  5. Overall the event went well in my opinion. I would agree that bock one everyone had more energy which made it better. Everyone was more ready to have fun than in the second half when everyone was full of pizza and ready for bed. I think what I enjoyed most was during our second block in the controlled chaos. During this time we were better able to hang with the kids and talk with them. One of the things I thought could have gone different was the pizza session. For us it was a problem because we did not have much time to set up for the second block. While we still pulled off getting ready it would have been nice to have known this before the night of. I think one of the biggest things I learned was the importance of communication.

  6. The night as a whole went well. Other than some minor things which in my honest opinion could not really change a thing for next year as there will be new games and people in the class. Meaning other than maybe skipping a game or two which we could have avoided some unpleasant lag time in doing so, not much can be said. There was the pizza break which was a little unorganized and the staff/youth pastor lounge that we basically weren't allowed in. Then maybe using less bass in worship as it literally shook the gym. lol. It was overall a well planned event that went over well. I think most of the games and the transitions from station to station went well... Organization is key to this event as well as most other large events. So if there is anything that the staff and planning committee did well it was their organization. If we needed something, then it was either readily available, or something that could be easily gotten.

  7. I think the event went well and I did enjoy getting to know my group better. I think a lot of the planning meetings with admissions was redundant. One thing that I learned was how to understand the volunteer needs and meeting them quietly, without asking if they would like that need to be met. For example, I asked a few volunteers who looked exhausted if the wanted a break, they said no even though they obviously needed to go sit down and not be around any ankle-biters for 5 minutes but they wanted to be seen as faithful so they denied. Later I ended up just telling my volunteers to go take 5 and they were grateful because they had no option.
