Hipster Ministry major/minor Pizza Party

Hey friends! I hope everyone had a great time at the Ministry Pizza Party that we put on today. You all had great hipster outfits too! I think that it went really well and that we were able to learn a lot that can be utilized in our future ministries. I have found that we did a great job at adapting and switching around the schedule to fit the needs of the party. I would even say that the turn out and reactions to the games went much better than I had anticipated. So with all that in mind, what would you say you learned from planning this event? What is one thing that you think went great and what is one thing that you could have done better? When planning an event like this in the future what would you do different? Overall, what were your thoughts on this fun, hipster themed event?

  1. Well I do agree that the party did go well, and Bailey did a good job MCing the event. As far as what i would do different would be to maybe pick a different theme. While Hipsters are relevant not everyone seemed completely excited for the theme. I think the flexibility that was shown with the schedule was a good thing. I believe that the schedule is there for a guide but is by no means concrete. I think I would pay more attention in the future to when things like Student revival is and plan accordingly the first time.

  2. I think that a major thing I learned was how to be attentive to what was going on during the party, which led to needing to be flexible. I thought we had a great turn out and it was nice getting to know different people. I think at the beginning of the party we struggled a bit to mingle and get to know everyone. I think at least for me I was a bit overwhelmed and tired from everything going on the previous week/weekend. But again, I felt like everything went smoothly. Hipster was a difficult theme to go with, but I don't think it ended up being an epic fail or anything! I also was reminded that ministry is exhausting! And sometimes things have to be planned closely together; like a conference, revival, retreat and party... haha but this gives us a good glimpse into how to balance a busy schedule and do our best anyway! We really worked together well, and I think that showed.

  3. I thought overall the Pizza party went really well! I was a little worried about how everything was going to workout, but I think it was a success! I think we all learned how important it is to be flexible in ministry. I have often learned that no event will ever go exactly as planned, so it is important to be able to adapt. So the pizza party was a good reminder of this for me. I think we did really good job promoting it! I thought it was a great a turn out! Over, there isn't much that I change, but I think I would be more careful about when choosing a date. I think we choose a good date, but we had to be flexible and willing to work around other events. So I think it is important to look at the school Calendar in the future. Over all I think we did a really good job and I am very proud of our class!!!

  4. I feel like I will just echo a lot of what has been said but I definitely learned flexibility. I wholeheartedly agree with what Tanner said in his entry: "I have found that we did a great job at adapting and switching around the schedule to fit the needs of the party. I would even say that the turn out and reactions to the games went much better than I had anticipated." I felt that the turn out was better than expected and everyone really responded to the games well. I thought we managed the time that we had as we came to alterations and worked well as a team. It was all balanced and everyone did a great job! :) I would say that if we had to improve on something, the planning as far as the date and the space could have gone a little bit smoother. In the end, however, it worked great and so I have no complaints there.

  5. The main thing that I learned from this even is that Bailey Weghorst is an incredible person! I was pretty bummed out by our turn-out. I thought that the personal invitation method of marketing would have worked out better because it was more about relationship building than just sending a mass email or an impersonal facebook message. I do think that there is value to unscheduled down-time along with the go-go-go pace of game after game that we did. My favorite part of the night was to be able to chill with people and eat pizza an coffee (crust is great dipped in coffee) and I think that was the best part for many of the other people. I think integrating down time with scheduled time is key to a "fun only" event such as this one.

  6. I felt like the event went great! I definitely learned that effective communication with your team is crucial! Without communication within your respective teams, and between teams themselves, this event would've been a disaster. Communication was key to the success of this event. I think its safe to say that it is also crucial for any events success. One thing i think went well was the overall flow of the event. I think everything transitioned smoothly and we kept everyone busy. I didn't really feel any luls at all. One thing i think could've been better was promoting the event. John and his group did a great job, don't get me wrong. But, i felt like the whole class overall could've done a better job getting people excited for the party. Like i said, the event was a blast and went very well.

  7. I agree with all of you. I think flexibility was a huge lesson from this event and that it went pretty well. I think one thing that could have gone better was promotion as well. I think as a whole, the class could've done a little better, but also the fact that we changed the date was probably a little confusing for people too. And I know some people only came for pizza, and that was a big part of the lack of crowd during the second half. Overall, I think this event went really great and everyone I talked to had a great time!
