Midterm Pizza Party

We just wrapped up the midterm pizza party and game night, so, after the past month of planning and preparation, I'd like to hear everyone's feedback. Were your expectations met? What did you think went well? What could we have done better? What was a highlight of the night for you? Let's hear it. (Feel free to give feedback on the night itself, as well as the preparation and planning process as well.)

  1. I really enjoyed the midterm party. Like some of us discussed afterwards, at times, it didn't even feel like we were doing a midterm in the moment (but maybe that's just because I wasn't doing anything once the party started). There were good conversations that went on throughout the evening and I even was able to get to know a couple of people that I did not know well during the event.

Communication within groups seemed to go pretty well from my point of view, communication between different groups however, was not quite as good. I'll also echo James' point in that we should have established a "take charge" person or a couple people ahead of time, that way transitions and other things could have been taken care of more easily.

  2. I really enjoyed the midterm party. I thought that it went really well, and that people enjoyed their time there. I thought that we had good game selections, and that we played them at appropriate times. I was pleased with the turn out because it seemed that for the most part, the people that came, came because they really wanted to and enjoyed each other's company.

Communication before hand was an issue. I am not sure about the other groups, but our group could not remember what games we had decided to play and so communicating with Clayton's group was an issue that we had.

  3. This was the first time I had every attended a midterm party, but I found it to be enjoyable. I do think our organization overall was a bit uneven, as there were times where we literally did not know what group was in charge of what. I thought the games themselves were good, and even the beginning game with ping pong was good. I thought it was a good ice breaker so not everyone was just staring at whoever was entering through the door.

I thought Caleb did well as the host, but I felt that we all were perpetrators of social loafing: we all just kinda sat back and let Caleb, Alex, and Tori do everything. They all did a great job, but I feel like everyone else should have done more. We all should of helped set up chairs and get ready for the next game, etc. So overall, the event itself went well, but I feel like we should have all been more in-sync.

  4. My expectations were met for the pizza party, I thought the transition of games and planned activities through the night went very well even though we didn’t know the schedule until the day of the event. I agree with everyone that we should have communicated more as a group before it was time for the actual event but I think we were able to make everything run smoothly once it was time for the party to start. I thought the games flowed nicely and our MC’s did a good job keeping things flowing and knowing when to let a game carry on.

  5. I enjoyed doing the pizza party. My expectations were met. I thought that the food was well planned and that the transitions between games went well. One thing we could have done better was locating chairs for the games before set up that way we didn't have to track any down. The highlight for me was seeing more people there than what I thought would show up.

  6. Yeah I think for the most part a lot of what I expected to happened went as planned and better than expected. I was really happy with all that went down at the party.
Like I said before I was really happy and satisfied with how it all went and the great times that were had.
I think for improvement, better communication. Within my group we thought we had what we needed altogether but there were some some duties that need filling and that wasn't communicated right away. But I think that was immediately the first thing that came to mind.
For me, the interaction with the different classes, freshman meeting juniors and the like. It was really great to see people to get to know one another in such a lighthearted setting.

  7. The Midterm pizza party went really well I thought. I really enjoyed it and pretty much everything I expected to happen, happened. I loved to see everyone hanging out, laughing, and just enjoying each other's company.
As everyone has been saying, communication is key for any event in life. I think as a group we could have done a little more of it, but overall I thought things ran smoothly and everyone had fun.

  8. Overall I thought the party was really fun! I was pleasantly surprised by the turn out; I expected it to be a low because of attendance in previous years. We had students from every social class. I think this is important because we should get to know all of the people in our school, not just those we happen to be in classes with during any given semester. The dynamics of the group were great. I payed attention, and I didn't see anyone who looked like they hated being there. We may not have executed everything perfectly, but I think our class did a really good job creating a fun environment; one in which people wanted to remain (and not just because they wanted free pizza!). The food was great and we ended up having enough without a problem. As James said, our games eded up being more mellow and relaxed over all (not a lot of crazy running around, working up a sweat, etc.) which made it possible to actually learn things about one another we might not have known otherwise. Our games involved the entire group, we didn't do a lot of splitting up into smaller groups. I think this worked for us because we all played and learned about each other together.

While a lot of things went well, we could have done some things better. I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but our communication and detailed preparation were lacking. This became obvious in our transitions. The MC's did a great job with the transitions considering the prep work we all did (or didn't do...) so I don't mean to say it was their fault at all. For example, my group was in charge of games. We did our requirements by picking and explaining games, but we should have taken it a step farther without being asked. We should have helped prepare the next events as others were currently going on, and we should have met with the leaders ahead of time to explain our vision of the flow from game to game. This shows that the groups could have done a better job communicating with each other. Set up could have gone smoother with more prep and people willing to do the work needed.

I had a great time at the party. It was different being on the other side of things. I viewed everything critically to learn what worked, what didn't work, what could have been done better, etc. because I had helped plan in. At the same time, I could still relax, have fun, and meet people.

  9. I also really enjoyed the pizza party. Normally I feel awkward at those events, because I'm just an awkward person, but I had a really fun time. I loved our teamwork and that we all worked together on this to get it done. Even though we didn't all meet together beforehand, I think it went smoothly. The games were really fun without being over the top. I honestly don't think people really want crazy games, they want chill games. I thought our theme was fun and relatable to everyone, although maybe not as cute as last years haha. Overall, I had a good time and the feedback from friends was great!
