So What Have We Learned?

James and Jenn have taught us a lot over the past five weeks, from how to lead games and adapt games to how to work on teams and plan events. On our own, we've had to implement these things and balance our many assignments. While we had a trial run two Mondays ago with the Bible lessons, this past Monday was our real test to see if we actually learned anything. My question, then, is twofold: What is one thing you saw within your team that could be improved? and What is one thing you saw in another team that could be improved (you can do both other teams)?

  1. Oh boy... that is a loaded question. I thought our team did really well but i think i can answer both of your questions with one answer. I think that one thing that frustrated me the most was the lack of communication between the different sets of team. My team was awesome at communicating our ideas and what was going on with us between ourselves. But i felt like I had no idea what was going on with the other teams or what the plan was for us at the event itself. So if there was one thing that i would want to work on for our future projects it would be the communication between the groups.

  2. I agree with Amie in the fact that I didn't know who was going to make the next transition so that the events went more smoothly. I think we all did a good job in getting our tasks done as individual groups but everything came up quicker than we wanted to, and thus it wasn't as planned/organized as we wanted it to be. For my group, and for me especially, I felt that we did some things last minute and we could of done a better job of that. That being said, nothing broke the event all together. I feel that every group did a good job getting their tasks done and that even if the transition between events was a little rough, we still did a good job of trying to include everybody and interacting with the students.

  3. I would have to agree with Amie as well. Communication within our group was really good, but it could have been improved between groups. We went into that party not totally sure who was doing what or how it was going to go. There was also a mis-communication about the Gym situation. If I had to find a major thing that could be improved it would be inter-group communication somehow. As for my group specifically, after seeing all of those girls in dresses at the party I think we should have put on the posters more clearly that physical activity games would be played. This way they could have dressed more appropriately and felt more comfortable in participating. Overall, I do believe we did a good job with the party in the end though.

  4. I totally agree with the whole communication thing. There was a lot of last minute putting things together because we all did our jobs, but didn't tell anyone else what we did. I think as a whole, the event did go really well and none of our mistakes ruined the party, but I think we can all learn to have more communication between each other and make sure that everyone knows what is going on for future events.

  5. Yes, definitely communication. I know that the group I was in (the games group), wasn't sure if we were supposed to lead the whole evening, which is what it felt like at some points. I wish that we would have had more time as a class to meet together and go over the plan for the whole evening. I thought that it went well, but improvements in communication would've made it even better!

  6. I agree with Amie and others. I feel like communication was the biggest struggle between the different team groups. I didn't really know what each group was doing or contributing to and where they needed information from me. I think Christa did an awesome job of getting in contact with me so that we had a common link between at least two groups for the most part. Overall, I think the party was a huge success and I think everyone had fun!!! I have never been to one of these parties where I saw everyone working so well together and where the theme was so involved. I am loving working with you all!!!

  7. Within the team I was a part of, we did a great job meeting outside of class and working together. In our team, we faced issues with communication as far as promotional and what not, but overall we did well. Agreeing with everyone else’s post I would say that communication as a class was a little off. I am happy though we faced a problem like this now instead of down the road when we are paid to work together in a church. The things we are learning in this class, mistakes and all, will be so helpful in the future when we work with a church and team. We are learning in a pretty controlled environment and everything we are learning will make us better planners and workers for God's kingdom.

  8. I would say that as an individual group, the promotion and organization team may have been able to improve their efforts a bit more by spreading the information about the event via word of mouth. Personally, not having many ministry classes, it was difficult to reach STP students in particular, but as far as multimedia awareness is concerned, our group did everything we possibly could have done. Collectively, I would say an area of improvement at the actual event would be to show more enthusiasm about the activities we were leading. It seemed as if we were all a bit more concerned about showing what we have learned (which is extremely important) but we forgot to perhaps let the Holy Spirit work where we could not. (Maybe just speaking for myself) I think overall, we worked well as a class and truly pulled this event off. However, for the future, I think it would be awesome if we could feel more confident in our attempts to pull off an event that we can actually fully engage and enjoy it with the attendees; so that in its completion, we can say that we not only lead, but participated. To reap in all of our efforts truthfully is something we can all work on in order to feel less stressed and crammed before an event.
