Each week, 1 student from the class will start the posting extravaganza! After they have posted, all other students are required to write a response to the original posts or in response to other comments from the original posts. Other readers/followers are welcome to join in on the conversation as you wish. Youth and Recreation pastors... we welcome your comments and insights!
I am in this class not just cause I have to. But also because I heard this was a fun class. I hope to gain ideas to help further my future ministry. I think that recreation ministry is important because it draws people who might not come if it wasn't for the recreation. I also think that it is important for fellowship. I hope to develop better planning skills.
ReplyDeleteLet's be real, I'm in this class because James and Jenn teach it!! :) But really, becuase I think it will help me develop a lot of skills that I will need and use in my future ministry. I hope to gain better insights on how to relate ministry to recreational fun so that people who would not necessarily come to church in the first place can still get involved. I think that recreation ministry is so important because it shows people that we are normal, honestly. So many people think that Christians are just Bible pushers who go to church and don't do normal stuff. If we can get people involved it shows them they have more in common with us than they think. I am hoping to learn how to develop good curriculum plans and how to keep the lessons interesting every week and not just every now and then.
ReplyDeleteI am in this class because it is a requirement for me to be able to graduate. I think that this class will be very useful for me in my ministry. I hope to gain a variety of useful tools to be able to use during my ministry to be able to keep my youth group interested and wanting to come back. I think that recreation ministry is important in the Church and in Christian Education because it is helpful in grabbing attention and allowing you to keep kids attention. Also it is a way to make them actually interested and having fun. That is a reason why i am going into ministry my self. One skill i hope to develop is to be a good planner and to be able to make good fun events for all to have a good time and want to come back.
ReplyDeleteI have been looking forward to taking this class since my freshman year. I heard about from a friend thAt was in it and I was so excited. Part of it was because I wanted to help with all of the events like MSO. I am very excited to learn more about how to engage with teens through recreation and such. Most of he work I do with teens is more teaching than it is fun stuff. I have planned games and events for kids more than teens, but I would really love to be able to use games more in my teaching and to do so effectively. I feel like games get used more as a time filler than as a ministry tool and I want to be able to change that in my ministry. I am really looking forward to this class and all that I will learn from it.
ReplyDeleteI am taking this class because I am not the biggest expert when it comes to recreation. I think it is important to have within a church setting, and I know if I want to have an effective ministry, I need to know more about the importance of recreation and how it can be used effectively. I really hope to gain a better understanding of the importance of recreation and how to come up with better ideas I can incorporate it into. I think it's important to have recreation within youth ministry especially because when it is done correctly, games can be a really cool way of bringing a lesson into a teen's life. If a game is tied to the overall lesson of the time period, it can help the students to better remember the lesson in the first place. Recreation also creates community when done correctly. It brings people together who would not have normally been together in the first place. Overall, I really hope I can develop a skill that allows me to incorporate recreation into my ministry in a way that connects the game into the overall lesson.
ReplyDeleteI am in this class primarily because I have to be. If I don't take this class, I don't graduate, simple as that. However, I am excited to take it because I believe that recreational ministry is very important to the growth of a church and the spiritual growth of students, and I hope to gain a better grasp of how to organize a recreation to make it more productive. I feel that it is critical because it helps to teach lessons like teamwork or biblical lessons. I hope to learn how to incorporate recreational activities into lessons to make them more useful for ministry.
ReplyDeleteAlright! To start off, I'm in this class because it is required-as are many others! I am interested in the class though because let's face it...what would a lesson look like if its only context was a classroom and the only method utilized was lecture? I would not want to be a part of that ministry! Educational ministry needs activity to bring a lesson to life and to bond students by almost magically pulling any student out of the tightest little shell for others to see their true selves. When it comes to planning lessons and activities, I am very much a 'big picture' planner. I can come up with great ideas and a general theme, but when it comes to the nitty gritty details, I cease to be as helpful. I hope to grow in my ability to be detail-oriented without losing my excitement for the abstract, big picture.
ReplyDeleteI am in this class because it is a required course for my youth ministry minor. However, I do believe that this will be a fun class to take and I am looking forward to taking it this semester. I think that recreation is a very important piece to youth ministry because it brings together kids from all over the place. When you hold events like MSO it becomes something that kids who don't regularly attend church can come to with their friends and not feel like they are going to be condemned. It is important in Christian education because it helps the learner to interact instead of listening to a lecture the entire time. I am hoping to learn how to go about planning bigger events in my youth ministry and finding out what all is involved to make it a successful event.
ReplyDeleteI am in this class because I am required to take this. I hope to gain a lot from this class. I want to be able to plan games better and include everybody in all different types of games. Recreation is really important in the church because it brings people together. Teens/children get closer to one another when they start to interact and play games. It is a great way to just have a fun time. I hope to develop a good planning method. To actually write down the games and practice them before actaully doing them. I know this class with help me do that and I am really excited!
ReplyDeleteI am in this class because I am required to take it. I hope to gain new friendships and to learn how to plan a vast majority of games and events. I belive that recreation in the church is important because it forms friendships and fellowship is made. One skill I hope to develops is to know how to plan events, camps, etc. in an organized fashion.
